{"id":90681,"date":"1999-12-31T00:05:00","date_gmt":"1999-12-30T13:05:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/smartoffice.com.au\/exclusive-lidl-still-keen-to-take-on-aldi-master-stores-on-radar\/"},"modified":"1999-12-31T00:05:00","modified_gmt":"1999-12-30T13:05:00","slug":"exclusive-lidl-still-keen-to-take-on-aldi-master-stores-on-radar","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging.strixdevelopment.net\/smartoffice\/1999\/12\/31\/exclusive-lidl-still-keen-to-take-on-aldi-master-stores-on-radar\/","title":{"rendered":"EXCLUSIVE: Lidl Still Keen To Take On Aldi, Master Stores On Radar"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Giant European retailer Lidl has not written off taking on Aldi in the Australian market according to sources.<\/p>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: sans-serif; font-size: 13.3333px;\">The group who has been talking to commercial real estate Companies and distributors in Australia with the Company now believed to be looking at several Masters locations where Woolworths is set to relinquish a lease.&nbsp;<\/span><\/div>\n<div><font face=\"sans-serif\"><span style=\"font-size: 13.3333px;\"><br \/><\/span><\/font><\/div>\n<div><font face=\"sans-serif\"><span style=\"font-size: 13.3333px;\">ChannelNews has been told that Aldi is also interested in several Masters locations in an effort to expand their presence in Australia. &nbsp;<\/span><\/font><\/div>\n<div><font face=\"sans-serif\"><span style=\"font-size: 13.3333px;\"><br \/><\/span><\/font><\/div>\n<div><font face=\"sans-serif\"><span style=\"font-size: 13.3333px;\">Both Aldi and Lidl sell house brand appliances and consumer electronic goods with both Companies now holding more than 11% of the European appliance market. &nbsp;<\/span><\/font><\/div>\n<div><font face=\"sans-serif\"><span style=\"font-size: 13.3333px;\"><br \/><\/span><\/font><\/div>\n<div><font face=\"sans-serif\"><span style=\"font-size: 13.3333px;\">Recently Lidl ratcheted up its UK expansion plan by issuing almost three times as many planning applications as Aldi.<\/span><\/font><\/div>\n<div><font face=\"sans-serif\"><span style=\"font-size: 13.3333px;\"><br \/><\/span><\/font><\/div>\n<div><font face=\"sans-serif\"><span style=\"font-size: 13.3333px;\">In November, Lidl said it would invest $3 Billion dollars over the next three years to ramp up its store expansion globally.&nbsp;<\/span><\/font><\/div>\n<div><font face=\"sans-serif\"><span style=\"font-size: 13.3333px;\"><br \/><\/span><\/font><\/div>\n<div><font face=\"sans-serif\"><span style=\"font-size: 13.3333px;\">Sources have said that the Company&#8217;s is planning on launching upmarket outlets that included self-checkouts and customer toilets, which had previously been missing from its budget superstores.<\/span><\/font><\/div>\n<div><font face=\"sans-serif\"><span style=\"font-size: 13.3333px;\"><br \/><\/span><\/font><\/div>\n<div><font face=\"sans-serif\"><span style=\"font-size: 13.3333px;\">Currently the German retail group is expanding their operations into the US market.
