{"id":90559,"date":"1999-12-31T00:22:00","date_gmt":"1999-12-30T13:22:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/smartoffice.com.au\/senate-probe-calls-uber-airbnb\/"},"modified":"1999-12-31T00:22:00","modified_gmt":"1999-12-30T13:22:00","slug":"senate-probe-calls-uber-airbnb","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging.strixdevelopment.net\/smartoffice\/1999\/12\/31\/senate-probe-calls-uber-airbnb\/","title":{"rendered":"Senate Probe Calls Uber, Airbnb"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Ride sharing company Uber and accommodation sharing online outfit Airbnb have been hailed to appear before the Senate inquiry into corporate tax avoidance tomorrow.<\/p>\n<div><font face=\"sans-serif\"><span style=\"font-size: 13.3333px;\">The inquiry is chaired by Labor Senator Chris Ketter, who has replaced former leader Sam Dastyari.<\/span><\/font><\/div>\n<div><font face=\"sans-serif\"><span style=\"font-size: 13.3333px;\"><br \/><\/span><\/font><\/div>\n<div><font face=\"sans-serif\"><span style=\"font-size: 13.3333px;\">Executives from a number of other companies including Chevron, ExxonMobil, Shell, Caltex, BP, Viva Energy, Woodside, Santos and Origin Energy are also slated to appear, as is Tax Commissioner Chris Jordan.<\/span><\/font><\/div>\n<div><font face=\"sans-serif\"><span style=\"font-size: 13.3333px;\"><br \/><\/span><\/font><\/div>\n<div><font face=\"sans-serif\"><span style=\"font-size: 13.3333px;\">In written submissions to the inquiry, Uber and Airbnb have argued that they comply with Australian tax laws and their Australian operations merely provide support services to parent companies based in the Netherlands and Ireland.<\/span><\/font><\/div>\n<div><font face=\"sans-serif\"><span style=\"font-size: 13.3333px;\"><br \/><\/span><\/font><\/div>\n<div><font face=\"sans-serif\"><span style=\"font-size: 13.3333px;\">Senator Dastyari told Fairfax Media that &#8220;there&#8217;s a lot of buzzwords around at the moment in politics about disruptive technology and innovation.
