When does 13MP become 8MP? When sold in OZ
LG’s “ground-breaking ” 4.7″ Optimus G, announced in Korea this week i<\/a>s one of the best spec-ed smarties around – with a 13MP camera, 4G LTE, 1.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro CPU and breakthough “in-cell” touch screen technology – even ahead of the Samsung’s S3. <\/p>\n

However, LG Australia has just confirmed the Android Optimus G will hit our shores, but with an 8.0MP camera – 5MP less than the one being sold in Korea and elsewhere. <\/p>\n

The reason? Aussie consumers and operators don’t want a high end camera, apparently. <\/p>\n

“Individual market are assessed for their individual needs and it was decided that the 8MP camera option was not the best fit for the Australian market given operator and consumer preferences,” a LG spokesperson told SmartHouse. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The other main tweak for the Aussie market is the additiona of the ‘QMemo’ tool which lets users capture a screen image, jot a note on it and share. The feature is already available on LG L-Style phones. <\/p>\n

Other features of the Optimus G high end smartphone include True HD LCD IPS screen (1280 x 768 pixels), 8.45mm slim body and glass coating the front and rear. <\/p>\n

However, there was no other word on carrier or available dates. LG is to enter discussions with local carriers about the new smartphone and will make public the release date as soon as negotiations are complete. <\/p>\n

“Optimus G has brought together some of the world’s best component makers to develop a high performance smartphone, that stands out in a sea of me-too devices – it’s a ground-breaking collaboration,” said Ben Glimmerveen, Head of Mobile Communications, LG Australia. <\/p>\n
