Current Analysis put part of AMD&#8217;s success down to the brand&#8217;s popularity in <\/font><a title=\"Shuttle Maestro Mini 81P - Media Center PC, only $1,999 from Digital Home\" href=\"http:\/\/www.digitalhome.com.au\/HomeEntertainment\/MediaCenterPC\/Shuttle\/Maestro_Mini_81P_-_Media_Center_PC\/450\" target=_blank>Media Center PCs<\/font><\/a> which now account for 46% of all <st1_country-region w_st=\"on\"><st1_place w_st=\"on\">U.S. retail desktop sales.<br \/>AMD managed to snare 55% of <\/font><a title=\"Shuttle Maestro Mini 81P - Media Center PC, only $1,999 from Digital Home\" href=\"http:\/\/www.digitalhome.com.au\/HomeEntertainment\/MediaCenterPC\/Shuttle\/Maestro_Mini_81P_-_Media_Center_PC\/450\" target=_blank>Media Center PC<\/font><\/a> sales, particularly in the <\/font><a title=\"Find products from HP\" href=\"http:\/\/www.digitalhome.com.au\/Search?p=Q&amp;ts=custom&amp;w=hp&amp;af=brand_hp&amp;isort=score&amp;method=and&amp;log=no\" target=_blank>HP<\/font><\/a> Pavilion a1130n. This desktop runs a 64-bit AMD Athlon 64 processor and 1 Gigabyte of RAM. Pricing for the desktop including Media Center operating system was selling for US$679 (post-rebate) (That&#8217;s AUD$909 by the way) according to the researcher&#8217;s numbers.<\/font><\/p>\n<p>New figure relapsed for October shows AMD going from strength to strength. According to Matt Sargent, director of research at Current Analysis, AMD did the unthinkable by surpassing Intel in October.<\/font><\/p>\n<p>AMD&#8217;s share of unit sales in the U.S retail desktop space increased from 52.0 percent in September to 67.7 percent in October. AMD&#8217;s share of unit sales in the <st1_country-region w_st=\"on\"><st1_place w_st=\"on\">U.S. retail notebook space increased from 26.2 percent in September to 31.5 percent in October.<\/font><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Continuing to hold this lead in the holiday season would be a colossal win for the company,&#8221; said Sargent.<\/font><\/p>\n<p>However, the stronger sales may not necessarily be having as much impact on AMD&#8217;s bottom line.
