{"id":85884,"date":"1999-12-31T00:09:00","date_gmt":"1999-12-30T13:09:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/smartoffice.com.au\/wall-street-spurns-intel-record\/"},"modified":"1999-12-31T00:09:00","modified_gmt":"1999-12-30T13:09:00","slug":"wall-street-spurns-intel-record","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging.strixdevelopment.net\/smartoffice\/1999\/12\/31\/wall-street-spurns-intel-record\/","title":{"rendered":"Wall Street Spurns Intel Record"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>High expectations at a time when Intel is under increased pressure from rival AMD spelled bad news on earnings day.<\/p>\n<p>Despite record revenues and income from record unit shipments the company&#8217;s shares fell nearly 10 per cent in after hours trading.<\/font><\/p>\n<p>Apart from missing its expected earnings by US$200 million, the processor maker also forecast slowing demand in 2006 after three years of solid growth in the sector.<\/font><\/p>\n<p>However, a key indicator of whether Intel has lost significant desktop processor marketshare will be revealed tomorrow when rival AMD posts its fourth quarter results in the <st1_country-region w_st=\"on\"><st1_place w_st=\"on\">US.<\/font><\/p>\n<p>Indications from <\/font><a href=\"http:\/\/www.smartofficenews.com.au\/Business_And_Finance\/News?article=\/Business%20And%20Finance\/News\/News\/Q8C3A3Q8\">late third quarter<\/font><\/a> and <\/font><a href=\"http:\/\/www.smartofficenews.com.au\/Computing\/Desktop_PCs?article=\/Computing\/Desktop%20PCs\/News\/K6H4Q3H3\">early fourth<\/font><\/a> were that AMD was making significant gains on the CPU giant.<\/font><\/p>\n<p>Intel&#8217;s results weren&#8217;t so bad, though. The company posted fourth quarter revenue of US$10.2 billion (up 6% YOY) and an operating income of US$3.3 billion (up 13% YOY). Net income was US$2.5 billion (up 16% YOY). The trouble was this figure fell well sort of the company&#8217;s own estimate of US$10.4 to $10.6 billion.<\/font><\/p>\n<p>Full year results were healthy with a US$38.8 billion revenue result and operating income of US$12.1 billion.
