Western Digital has launched a new 3TB external hard drive that comes with USB 3.0 which claims to transfer huge files in an instant.

According to the company, the My Book Essential will now come in 3TB, 2TB and 1TB options. These drives come with WD SmartWare, a back-up software that claims to automatically save files to the drive. The drives not only take advantage of the fast data transfer capabilities of USB 3.0, but are also compatible with USB 2.0 connections.
Additional new products that come with USB 3.0 include the My Passport Essential (500GB) and My Passport Essential SE (750GB and 1TB).
Vice President of Marketing for WD’s Branded Products Group, Dale Pistilli said, “WD’s newest line of My Book and My Passport external hard drives features the latest USB 3.0 connection technology, which more than triples the speed to transfer media files, but still works with today’s USB 2.0 ports. In addition, consumers can take advantage of the highest capacity available on external hard drives with the new 3 TB My Book Essential drive.”
